You have to walk that lonesome valley for yourself. Or that is what I thought until I found you.
I was heading down-trail—that lonesome trail—all alone. I was gonna make my own way.
I was once so lonely . . . I was once without you.
Now you are my life.
’Twas a feelin’ . . . ’twas something that brought us together. ’Twas love.
I ain’t much for words . . . I’m just a saddle tramp.
Tomorrow, I head out for the drive to Abilene. I’ll be punchin’ cows and eatin’ dust for a thousand miles. But I’ll be thinking of you every mile of the way.
Round the fire at night while the other boys are swappin’ their lies, I’ll be thinking of you.
I am the cowboy that loves you so true.
Cowboys are so sexy! That’s a wonderful love story and a great-looking cowboy! Now, if only I were humanine instead of feline . . .
Evocative, from the imagery of the lonely trail to the campfire bravado…nicely played!
Thanks, Emily.

A rarely seen side of Author Andrew Joyce’s writing talents 🙂
Thanks, Chris, but did you really have to let everyone know what a sentimentalist I can be at times? (jk)
YEP 😀 😀 😀
My Dad was a cowboy and this is the sort of poem he would have said had he been a poet. He passed away 9 years today so thanks for the memory.
I’m glad that I posted in time for this sad anniversary . . . you must have wonderful memories of him. The first and the last line are from the song, “Red River Valley.” Here’s a link to the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PupeWwhMbQc The rest is pure Andrew Joyce (whoever he is).
Poignant. Sounds like a cowboy to me. <3 😀 Wonderful!
Thank you for reading it.
You are welcome. 😀
Quite the outpouring of genuine feeling. Gives us another dimension of humanity is many ways. I like it.
I appreciate your take on it.
I could hear that song echoing in my ears! Well done.
Gracias.
Cowboy love – very romantic, Andrew.
Don’t forget Danny. He helped out by not bothering me for ten minutes while I wrote it.
What a good buddy 😀 He knew it was going to be worth it.
Love is a wonderful but fragile gift. It can also help us through the loneliness and make the miles we travel shorter. Well done.
So true,
